Teknik Sipil – UPI

The Department of Civil Engineering Education is one of the departments under the Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education at the Indonesia University of Education. The department has a historical development that spans different eras:

Era of FKIT IKIP Bandung (1963-1983):

  • The department initially started as “B1 Technical Course” in 1958, designed to enhance the quality of STM and SGPT teachers.
  • In 1961, the B1 Technical Course was integrated into the FKIP-B/Technical University of Padjajaran.
  • In 1963, FKIP-A, FKIP-B1/Technical, and the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) were merged to form IKIP Bandung.
  • This era saw the development of the Department of Civil Engineering Education under the Faculty of Technical Education (FKIT) at IKIP Bandung.

Era of FPTK IKIP Bandung (1983-1993):

  • The Department of Civil Engineering Education and the Department of Architecture Education merged to create a single Department of Building Engineering Education.
  • This department was placed under the Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education (FPTK) at IKIP Bandung.
  • The main reason for the merger was to align the education at IKIP with the curriculum and subject areas taught at the secondary school level (SMK).
  • The FPTK era was marked by efforts to develop a flexible curriculum to adapt to the needs of society and the labor market.

Era of Flexible Curriculum (1993-2005):

  • To meet the demands of a changing society and advances in science and technology, FPTK developed a flexible curriculum.
  • The curriculum was designed to prepare graduates with dual capabilities: the ability to manage and conduct technical and vocational education professionally (the primary focus) and the ability to develop science and technology (a secondary focus).
  • In 2001, the Department of Building Engineering Education was divided into two programs: Civil Engineering Education and Architecture Education.

Era of FPTK UPI PT BHMN (2005-2009):

  • The change in UPI’s status to a state-owned legal entity (PT BHMN) required a repositioning of the Department of Building Engineering Education.
  • The department aimed to shift from a focus on vocational skills to an emphasis on engineering and civil engineering.
  • In 2006, the Department of Building Engineering Education was split into two departments: Civil Engineering Education and Architecture Education.

2010 Until Now:

  • The Department of Civil Engineering Education has added a new program, Civil Engineering (S1).
  • It currently oversees four programs: Building Engineering Education (S1), and Civil Engineering (S1).
  • The Civil Engineering program (S1) started accepting students in 2010.

The department has evolved and expanded its programs to adapt to changing educational and professional needs while maintaining a strong focus on civil engineering and technical education.
